Doctor detains Nursing mother, confiscates her car over N480,000 unpaid childbirth bill

Peace who is a nursing mother alongside her husband, Uche Onu have filed a lawsuit against Doctor Alfred Nwoyeocha at the Kaduna state High court over her unlawful detention and confiscation of her car due to her inability to settle alleged N480,000 child-birth bills.

The couple has made a demand of N32 million from Dr. Nwoyeocha and the Maneks Hospital Management as compensation fee for negligence, Confiscation of the patient’s car worth N4.2 million and also for the unconsented surgery carried out on the patient.

The Doctor denied the allegations levelled against him through a statement by his Lawyer, Valentine Ajibo. The Defence Lawyer who described the suit as incompetent, urged the court to dismiss it as the court has no jurisdiction to entertain the case.

Nwoyeocha stated “The plaintiffs’ claims are frivolous, lacking in merit, gold-digging and targeted at attracting sympathy from the court into granting their unmerited claims”

According to the Plaintiff, her baby was taken to a third party Incubator at the Haose Hospital which costs N261,000 despite the fact the baby was not registered there, without offering her any explanation.

According to Punch, Peace is a former employee of the Maneks Hospital Limited whose appointment got terminated on March 11, 2019. While she was still a Hospital staff, she had her six year-old child at the hospital through a Caesarian section and her husband signed the consent form following the instructions of her husband.

Peace and her husband in the lawsuit filed by their Lawyer, Ikem Lawrence elucidated that  in 2013 and in November 20, 2018 ,the Doctor carried out a Pre-eclampsia* surgery on  Peace. Peace claims she was “negligently and unskillfully” treated.
