Don’t Wear Miniskirts If You Don’t Want To Be Raped – Zimbabwe’s First Lady Tells Women

Grace, the wife of Zimbabwe’s president, Robert Mugabe has condemned wearing of mini skirts by young ladies, saying it predisposes them to rape.

Mugabe, who is the ruling Zanu PF party’s Women League Secretary, gave this charge why addressing women at a political rally in Zimbabwe on Friday, Newsday reported.

According to the news website, Mugabe said: “If you walk around wearing mini skirts displaying your thighs and inviting men to drool over you, then you want to complain when you have been raped? It’s unfortunate because it will be your fault.”

“Wear clothes like Mai Mugabe or you can choose a trousers, but not those which are too tight. These types of clothes are the signs of moral decadence in our country.”

Women rights activists and groups in the country have however condemned her statement, with some calling it “disgraceful and denigrating to women”.
