A man in Jos has been beaten to coma by his relations after he allegedly hacked his octogenarian mother to death on Thursday.
The man, Bravo Kunde, a resident of Jenta Mangoro community of Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, is said to be a junior staff of a branch of an old-generation bank in Jos.
The victim, known as Mama Yakubu, died as a result of machete-inflicted injuries sustained to the head, reportedly inflicted by her own son.
“Neighbours heard shouts in the house at about 6am as the old woman was crying for help but before they could get there, the old woman was already lying in the pool of her blood,” Baba Nati, a relative of the deceased, said.
Angry relatives then descended on the suspect, beating him to within an inch of his life.
Another family member stated that Kunde was deranged as a result of excessive alcohol consumption and smoking of dangerous substances.
He said that prior to the unfortunate incident the suspect had started behaving strangely and acting restless the night before, stating that nobody could say for sure what came over him to commit the act.
Confirming the incident, the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Emmanuel Abuh, said that the suspect was picked up by the police in a state of coma and taken to hospital for treatment.
Abuh said that the matter is being investigated.
