Ebola: Sierra Leone launches Survivor Sex Study to Better Understand the Virus

Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health has launched a study to try to understand whether Ebola can be passed on through sexual contact with male survivors of the virus.

Although, previous research has established that Ebola can stay in semen for at least three months after a man has recovered from the virus, Scientists are still not sure about whether the virus can be contacted through sexual contact.

More than Nine thousand people have been killed by Ebola mostly in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia.

Meanwhile Liberia has cleared the four remaining patients infected during the country’s recent Ebola outbreak.

“There are no Ebola cases anywhere in Liberia as we speak,” Deputy Health Minister Tolbert Nyenswah told The Associated Press.

Liberia cannot be declared Ebola free again until it goes 42 days twice the maximum incubation period without any new cases.
