In a shocking move, Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi has ordered the arrest of some of his aides and other government officials from Ikwo LGA of the state.

They were reportedly arrested following a communal clash between Ekpomaka and Inyimegu communities in Ikwo LGA.

The governor gave the order at a security meeting on the matter in the state capital, Abakaliki on Thursday.

Umahi reportedly ordered the State Commissioner of Police, Tituts Lamorde to arrest Fidelis Okpata, his deputy chief of staff, traditional rulers and government officials present at the meeting.

The governor also ordered the arrest of some people not present in the meeting: Frederick Udogu, chairman of Abakaliki Capital Territory Development Board, and Eso Udogu, ccoordinator of Ikwo South Development Centre.

He equally directed the Commissioner for Justice, Cletus Ofoke, to obtain a detention order from the court in respect of the arrested persons.

Umahi said he would not mind losing all the votes from the affected area but the arrested persons must be detained until they sign an undertaking that no life would be further lost in the crisis.
