Real Madrid beat Grenada despite a late comeback attempt by the away side, four goals from Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard, former FIFA the Best Player of the Year, Luca Modric and Jame Rodriguez was enough for Zinedine Zidane’s men to hold on for the win at home.

Real Madrid extends their lead at the top of La Liga and maintains a good start to the local season a feat they would have loved to replicate in Europe having lost one and drawn one from their opening champions league campaigns.

It was a first-placed versus second-placed affair which made it all the more an exciting watch. Real extend their lead over second-placed Grenada to four points after the win.

Benzema has now scored his sixth goal in eight games. Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, in for the ill Thibaut Courtois, made a mess of a back pass eight minutes later before bundling over Alvaro Vadillo – and Machis took his opportunity from the penalty spot.

Real Madrid are unbeaten in eight and are separated from Barcelona by five points. The Catalans have struggled to win games at the beginning of the season and are hit with more bad news as Messi after just returning from injury may well be on his way back.
