Ahead of the upcoming governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, incumbent Governor, Godwin Obaseki has asserted that he is not afraid of his closest challenger Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

The Governor of Edo state revealed this while appearing in a political programme, Sunday Politics on Channels Television.

Obaseki contested against Ize-Iyamu in 2016 while the latter was in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Governorship seat which Obaseki won.

Ize-Iyamu decamped to the party in the light of the political war between National Chairman of the APC and former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole and Godwin Obaseki.

It was reported that Oshiomhole who also beat Ize-Iyamu at the polls to become Governor invited the pastor to join the APC to replace the incumbent as a result of the fallout between both party leaders.

Ize-Iyamu is now expected to contest for the ticket of the APC alongside the sitting Governor for the September elections.

Answering questions from the journalist, Obaseki said he had no reason to be afraid.

“Why should I be? The last time I contested, he (Ize-Iyamu) was my opponent from the PDP and the votes are there.

“I beat him (when I had no track record as a governor) and now with the track record as a governor, I don’t have any fears,” he said
