Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged the electorate in Edo State to be vigilant as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) begins the collation of results of Saturday’s gubernatoral election.

Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019, took to Twitter to make the call on Saturday evening.

Praising the electorate for turning out en-masse to exercise their franchise, he said that they could not afford to rest until the results have been announced.

Quoting a popular saying, he said that the price of freedom remained eternal vigilance.

“Well done Edo for coming out to decide. But that’s not where it ends.

“As the saying goes, eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.

“In this case, let’s say vigilance is the price required to make your vote count in #EdoDecides2020.

“We must not lose our guards on this,” Atiku stated.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of releasing fake results of the gubernatorial election in a bid to hoodwink the unsuspecting public.

According to a statement by the APC, the PDP were deliberately releasing fake figures in the pretence that it has already secured majority votes.

“Before the election, we warned that PDP has prepared doctored election results and fake figures to make it appear that they will win the elections.

“They have even graduated to hosting a fake website for INEC where they release their concocted results.

“I want to urge all APC supporters in Edo to remain calm as we had the majority of the votes in the state cast in our favour.

“A falling tree makes a louder crack than an erect tree.

“PDP has been churning out false figures. They released an edited picture, for instance, of Comrade Oshiomhole voting for PDP.

“They released news that PDP won in our candidate’s polling unit. These are all falsehood. We will not stoop to their level,” the statement read in part.
