The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded governorship election in Edo state, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has been urged by the Coalition for Good Governance and Economic Justice in Africa to take his case to the Governorship election tribunal rather than hiring innocent youths of the state to protest on the streets of Benin.

The group in a statement signed by Mr. Amos Cole, the publicity secretary, admonished youths to focus on their future by embracing the agricultural policies of the incoming administration, rather than allowing themselves to be used as instruments of destruction in an election that is widely adjudged as free, fair and credible.

The statement added that the recent pictures that went viral wherein children below the ages of 10 were sighted holding placards purportedly protesting against INEC, amounts to child abuse which violates the country’s child rights law of 2004.

“All those responsible for that crime should be arrested by the Nigerian police”.

According to the group, “as we speak, many local and foreign investors have lined up to embrace the economic plan of the Governor-Elect which will create thousands of jobs for the people of Edo state and therefore any attempt by anybody or group to sabotage such efforts under the guise of street protest should be discouraged by all means.”
