Despite the court orders which released the former attorney-general of the Federation, Bello Adoke, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has refused to release and still intends to keep Adoke on perpetual detention.

The former attorney-general of the federation, who has fulfilled the bailed conditions prescribed by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory since Thursday last week, is still being kept in detention by the EFCC.

According to the report gathered by TheCable on Wednesday, the EFCC gave an additional condition precedent to his release. The EFCC mandated that Adoke must acquire the “enrolment of order” — an official summary of a court ruling issued before the full version is ready — nevertheless refused to release him after the requested document was presented.

TheCable also gathered from a senior official of EFCC who said that they intend to seek another detention order from the court continuously until they complete their investigation.

He said;

“We plan to go back to court to seek another detention order that will allow us keep him for a fresh 14 days, after which we will renew it and keep him for another 14 days as we continue our investigations into OPL 245,” a senior official told TheCable.

“Although it is not envisaged under the administration of justice act (ACJA) that you can seek a detention order for one suspect more than once, we are prepared to test the law,” the official said.
