EFCC drags small time Yahoo boy to court for $1,000 scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday arraigned one Bolaji Quadri also known as Philip Coffert before the Lagos State High Court on a 6-count charge of forgery and Obtaining of money under false pretence.

Bolaji Quadri, was arrested on the 5th of March, 2016 for allegedly obtaining the sum of $1,000 from a certain Raedeena Collins under the guise that he was Philip Coffert. Also found in his possession upon arrest were several incriminating documents including forged cashier’s cheque from international banks in both United States and United Kingdom.

The charges partly read; “you Bolaji Quadri (a.k.a Philip Coffert) on or about the 5th day of March 2015 in Lagos, within the Ikeja Judicial Division by false pretence and with intent to defraud obtained the sum of $1000 (One Thousand US Dollars) from one Raedeena Collins by falsely representing to her that you are Philip Coffert which pretence you knew to be false and thereby committed an offense contrary to section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act No.14 2006”.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

The case presided over by Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of the Federal High Court in Ikeja was however adjourned till 3rd and 4th May, 2016 for commencement of trial while the presiding Judge was presented with a bail application by the defendant’s counsel, Gbenga Osho.

The court ordered that the accused be remanded in prison till the commencement of his trial.
