Egypt Pardon 86 Inmates release 219 to Celebrate War Victory

Egypt celebrates victory over Israel during the 19-Day October 1973 War. The Egyptians caught the Israelis by surprise and won the first wave of the attacks. The Israelis mobilized their forces and pushed back eventually winning the war after successfully surrounding a third of Egypt’s troops.

President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi announced the granting of a presidential pardon to 86 prisoners, the Interior Ministry said in a Facebook statement on Thursday and release some 219 on conditions.

Egypt released a total of 305 prisoners to mark the anniversary of the October War victory.

The Egyptian president customarily issues a pardon decree on public holidays including two religious Muslim festivals, the holy month of Ramadan and the July 23 Revolution anniversary.
