Speaking at the distribution of the items in Kano on Tuesday, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje said that the beneficiaries were selected from the five emirate councils and 13 rehabilitation centres for mentally retarded persons in the state.

Ganduje, represented by the Executive Secretary, Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Saleh Jili, said that the occasion was an annual event to host persons with disabilities and ensure that they too had the opportunity of celebrating Sallah in a joyous mood.

According to him, the food items include: rice, vegetable oil, cow, ram and clothing.

“Each of the beneficiaries from the 13 rehabilitation centres received a bag of rice, vegetable oil, cow and N20,000 cash for firewood and ingredients.

“Other beneficiaries include: emir of the blind, emir of the deaf, emir of the lepers and emir of the physically-challenged, with their chiefs,” he said.

The governor added that they were all from the five emirate councils (Kano, Bichi, Karaye, Rano and Gaya), adding that over N6 million was spent in acquiring the items.

He listed the 13 rehabilitation centres for mentally retarded persons as those in Danbatta, Minjibir, Gaya, Wudil, Sumaila, Tudun Wada, Rano, Karaye, Shahuci, Dorayi, Bichi and Dawakin Kudu.

“The centres under SEMA were designed to provide psychological support, clinical services as well as vocational and skill acquisition training for the disabled,” he said.

Ganduje called on kind-hearted individuals to support such gesture in order to assist the rehabilitation centres.
