In a goodwill message signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, in Abuja, the party said “Indeed, the Eid El-Kabir, while teaching great lessons in faith in the Almighty God, also provides us the opportunity to humble ourselves as a people and seek God’s intervention for our dear country.

“We must therefore seize this divine doorway and collectively pray for our leaders to be divinely guided against actions and inactions that tend to divide the nation, create tension and threaten our bond as one people under God, who, in His infinite wisdom destined Nigeria, a united and prosperous nation, where the welfare, freedom and happiness of all citizens are guaranteed.”

Metuh urged Nigerians to focus on the virtues that unite us as a nation, while resisting vices that break the bonds of our unity.

”In particular, we commend our gallant soldiers, many of whom have paid the supreme sacrifice, for continuing to stand up for the unity and cohesion of our dear country. We assure them of our unqualified support as they remain in battle, even during this moment of celebration, to ensure our safety and security and to crush the terrorists who have killed and maimed many innocent citizen.”

The Nigeria Labour Congress also urged workers to use the Sallah period to rededicate themselves to the Nigerian project.

Eid-el-Kabir represents unconditional obedience to our creator, sacrifice, adherence to higher moral values and show of love to friends and families through sharing.

“The occasion of Eid- el-Kabir affords us an opportunity to reconcile with God, re-assess our personal and official lives and how these impact on the nation.
