Ejiofor Accuses Wike of Spending Millions Monthly on ‘Wasteful’ FCT Media Chats

Abuja-based social critic and lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of spending hundreds of millions of naira each month on what he described as an “ostentatious” and “wasteful” media chat.
In a strongly worded statement released to the press on Monday, Ejiofor criticised the monthly broadcast initiative, alleging it offers little value to the public while reflecting a glaring case of misplaced priorities amidst Nigeria’s current economic crisis.

Ejiofor, a former lead counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), said it was unacceptable for a public official to channel such large sums into media events while millions of Nigerians grapple with skyrocketing inflation, stagnant wages, and worsening poverty.
“This monthly spectacle is anything but a tone-deaf misuse of public funds—especially in a country where many survive on less than $2 a day,” he stated in the release titled “Extravagance in a Time of Hardship – President Tinubu Must Curb FCT Minister Wike’s Costly Media Show.”
According to Ejiofor, the funds spent on a single edition of the media chat could be redirected toward urgent humanitarian needs, such as providing relief for flood victims in Niger State, renovating dilapidated schools, equipping rural clinics, or sustaining feeding programs in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
“The optics are disheartening. The implications are worse,” he said. “Nigerians are not asking for a televised circus – they are crying out for competent governance, prudent spending, and people-centred leadership.”
He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene immediately by reining in the FCT Minister and halting what he described as extravagant spending.
“This is not a time for flamboyance and fanfare. It is a moment that demands humility, responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to the public good,” Ejiofor said. “Nigeria deserves better. The time to act is now.”
