Mr Rotimi Ekundayo on Thursday emerged as the winner of the APC house of assembly ticket for Alimosho Constituency 1.

The 35 delegates of the party voted for the three aspirants for the ticket.

Voting at the venue for the election at Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA) began at 2:05 p.m. and ended at 2:28 p.m. with heavy security presence.

The Chairman, APC Electoral Committee/Returning Officer for the constituency, Mr Isola Ogunsola, announced that Ekundayo polled 19 votes out of the 35 votes cast, Mr Jimoh Orelope polled 15 votes while Mafe Abiodun got one vote.

Ekundayo in an interview with NAN expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, noting that it was free, fair and transparent.

“I thank God for giving us this victory and want to thank the party leadership and supporters for having so much confidence in me.

” I also want to thank our party leader, Sen. Bola Tinubu, for keeping to his promise of a free and fair election at the primaries and also abiding by the result of the election.

“This assurance enabled the people of Alimosho constituency 1 to demonstrate their desire to vote their preferred candidate who has an electoral value.

“I pray that Tinubu will also emerge as the APC flagbearer at the presidential primaries on Sunday,” he said.

Ekundayo charged electorate and Nigerians to ensure that they got their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) ahead of the 2023 general elections and come out en mass to exercise their civic rights.

He promised not to disappoint the constituency if elected as their lawmaker in the state house of assembly.

The Executive Chairman, Mosan -Okunola LCDA, Ms Olabisi Adebajo, also confirmed to NAN that the election was free and fair.

Adebajo explained that the tight security presence at the venue was a measure put in place to avert a repeat of the violence that occurred at the centre on Thursday.

“We have to beef up security following the violence that erupted here yesterday.

” The violence was caused by a misinformation and suspicion by some party supporters who thought that the house of assembly election was being held behind closed doors.

“Meanwhile, we were just inside waiting for the electoral officers and materials to come before the election was postponed across the state by our leadership,” she said

Ekundayo will replace Mr Bisi Yusuf, incumbent lawmaker representing the  constituency.

The ruling party is holding its House of Assembly and House of Representatives’ primaries across the 40 state constituencies and 24 federal constituencies in the state. (NAN)
