Ekweremadu: “Burglar” Finally Speaks

2 Min Read

Police authorities on Wednesday at the Force Headquarters, Abuja paraded Mohammed Yusuf, the alleged leader of a burglary gang that stormed the home of Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu on Tuesday morning.

Yusuf, 25, said that his gang would have avoided the house if they knew it belonged to “a big man” like Ekweremadu.

The suspect, who spoke in Hausa through an interpreter, said that his gang did not meet any security personnel on duty when they stormed the house.

He disclosed that his gang scaled the building’s fence and accessed one of the rooms using a car-tyre jack.

Yusuf said that although his gang went to the house in search of money, they got nothing as he eventually apprehended.

The suspect said that his gang were able to lay hold on a young man who later turned out to be the senator’s son while inside the building.

He further disclosed that the young man kept shouting “honey, honey” as if he was calling on his wife, only for the senator to show up at the other end of the door.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, reaffirmed the position of the police that the incident was a burglary rather an assassination attempt on the senator.
