Ekweremadu’s attackers identified by German Police

German police have revealed that it has been able to fish out the identities of four IPOB members who assaulted Ekweremadu in Germany last weekend.

The incident which precisely occurred on Saturday, August 17, at an event organized by “Ndigbo Germany”, had Ekweremadu running for his life

But while many Nigerians frowned at the actions of his attackers, the Bavaria Police maintained a rather indifferent stance on the incident, revealing that no individual had been arrested in connection to the case.

But upon being probed by the Nigerian Embassy in Germany, four out of Ekweremadu’s attackers have been arrested and remanded in custody.

The criminal code invoked against the arrested IPOB members reads, “(1)Whosoever commits an attack against the life or limb of a foreign head of state, member of a foreign government, the head of a foreign diplomatic mission who is accredited in the Federal territory while the victim is in Germany in his official capacity shall be liable to imprisonment not exceeding five years or a fine, in especially serious cases to imprisonment of not less than one year.

“(2) In addition to a sentence of imprisonment of at least six months, the court may order the loss of the ability to hold public office to vote and be elected in public elections (section 45(2) and (5)).”

Reacting to the development, a foreign affairs official in Abuja, told The Cable that the German police had to screen the video to be able to pin down the four attackers.

The source said, “I cannot reveal their identities for now because the German authorities are now co-operating with us and investigating the attack.”
