Ekwueme’s residence in Enugu wears new look ahead of final burial

The Enugu residence of the late former Vice-President, Dr Alex Ekwueme, is already wearing a new look ahead of Jan. 30 service of song in Enugu and his final burial.

Ekwueme died on Nov.19, 2017 at a London hospital in United Kingdom after a brief illness.

A correspondent of NAN, who called at his residence at No. 11/13 Ezikwo Street, Independent Layout, Enugu on Monday, observed that there was a total clean-up of facilities.

It was also observed that there was renovation on the building as well as its water reticulation, while a new glossy paint revealed the beauty of the edifice in the residence, which was over 25 years old.

Buildings within the vicinity of his residence had all been repainted, especially house No. 8, 10 and 12 of the same street, which were directly opposite the late political icon’s house.

When NAN correspondent went through the roll of the condolence register at the residence, 364 Nigerians had signed it so far.

NAN, however, observed that those visiting were now coming in trickles as it took about an hour to see a new visitor that wanted to sign the register in the compound.

The condolence register had been adorned by ink of prominent personalities in the country, including the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and the President-General of Ohanaze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Nnia Nwodo.

The others were the Wife of the late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dr Uche Azikiwe, the Archbishop of Anglican Arch-Diocese of Enugu, Dr Emmanuel Chukwuma and a prominent industrialist, Dr Emeka Nwandu.

The rest were traditional rulers from Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa states, all within the old Eastern Region of the country.

For the final burial, according to a programme released by the Federal Government and obtained at the residence, there will be a service of songs for late Ekwueme at Cathedral Church of the Good Shepherd, Independent Layout, Enugu on Tuesday, Jan. 30 by 4 p.m.

On Wednesday, Jan. 31, there will be South-East Zonal Commendation Ceremony at Okpara Square, Enugu at 10 p.m. (NAN)
