El-Rufai absolves self of “Body Bags” comment, denies inciting violence

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has denied threatening electoral violence in his comments about foreign interference.

The controversial governor reportedly threatened to send members of the Global Democratic Institutions, who work against the interest of Nigeria, back to their countries in body bags.

El-Rufai’s comment has drawn reactions from Nigerians, with opposition parties threatening to withdraw from peace accord.

The clarification was contained in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Samuel Aruwan.

He stated that the governor’s comments are what “every patriot can understand”.

However, Nigerians are not persuaded by the governor’s denial.
