El-Rufai Declares Tinubu ‘Gone’, Cites 91% Disapproval Rating in North and Southeast

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring that the president is “gone” politically due to widespread dissatisfaction with his administration’s performance.
Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday evening, El-Rufai, a prominent chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), said recent internal polls show Tinubu has a 91% disapproval rating in both the North and Southeast regions of Nigeria.

“We have to ask Nigerians — do you like what is happening? This is just two years in. If your life has improved since May 29, 2023, fine. If not, why not give others a chance?” El-Rufai stated during the interview.
Poor Approval Ratings Nationwide
The former governor said polling data shows that even in Lagos, Tinubu’s traditional stronghold, the president is struggling with a 78% disapproval rating. In the broader Southwest, only Ondo and Ekiti states showed slightly better numbers, though no state crossed the 50% approval mark.
El-Rufai accused the Tinubu administration of failing in critical areas, including:
- Economy: He said the economic structure has “stalled” under Tinubu.
- Security: “The security architecture has failed,” he added.
- Trade and Investment: El-Rufai criticized the government’s lack of clear trade and investment policies.
“They are generating record revenues, but we have no idea where the money is going because there are no tangible results,” he emphasized.
Mounting Opposition Ahead of 2027 Elections
El-Rufai’s comments come amid increasing talk of a united opposition front ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various parties, including the PDP and SDP, exploring alliances.
This latest critique follows earlier remarks by El-Rufai, in which he described Tinubu’s cabinet as lacking quality and warned that Nigerians would “learn their lesson” in 2027 if changes are not made.
