El-Rufai Sues Shehu Sani For Calling Him ‘A Drunk’, Seeks N2bn Damages

The Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has sued the senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Shehu Sani for calling him “a drunk, a loose cannon and an embarrassment to President Muhammadu Buhari”.

The governor filed the suit before the State High Court on Friday.

Represented by his counsel, AbdulHakeem Mustapha, SAN, el-Rufai sued the senator on four allegations including defamation of character.

He is damaging relief of N500 million on each of the four allegations, totalling N2 billion.

El-Rufai said in the suit that the “malicious statements” allegedly made by the senator has damaged his reputable before right-thinking members of the public.

He is praying the court to declare that the “derogatory” remarks violated his right to dignity of person.

Also, El-Rufai’s counsel dispelled the insinuation that the governor could not sue or be sued by virtue of the immunity conferred on his position by the 1999 constitution.
