Elections: What We’ll Do to Officials Who Collect Bribe- INEC

In the light of the upcoming elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has threatened any corrupt official with jail time.

National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education of the commission, Mr. Festus Okoye who said this in Abuja also added that the election results would be collated manually throughout the country.

He also took the time to debunk claims that INEC afforded the North undue advantage in the collection of PVC by distributing the cards to Religious leaders who in turn gave it out to potential voters.

“We are ready for electronic transmission any day the law is amended. For now, we are collating and transmitting manually in accordance with the law.” the INEC higher up said.

“Anybody with information that PVCs were handed over to religious leaders or any other person for distribution by INEC in any state should come up with evidence. We will not sweep such infraction under the carpet.
“The commission is prepared to deliver a free, fair and credible election and we will come hard on ad-hoc staff who collects financial inducements from any source in other to compromise the election.”
He claimed that no one who would be working with the Electoral body would be owed and that they would all be paid.
