The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that there could be the possibility of electronic voting in the 2015 elections.

The disclosure was made by Mr Nick Dazang, the Deputy Director (Publicity) of the Commission today in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.

He said the electronic voting system, which he described as more credible, could only be implemented if the electoral laws were to accommodate its use. He was however silent on if the infrastructure to enable electronic voting was present in Nigeria, a country that suffers epidemic like blackouts.

His words: ‘‘We all know the importance of electronic voting. It is an essential force that plays critical role as one of the basic instruments of credible election.

“India and some other countries have used it and the elections held so far in these countries have been adjudged as not only free and fair, but also credible,’’ he said.
