Elon Musk is “giving serious thought” to building a new social media platform.

This new platform will be geared towards the promotion of free speech.

Pranay Pathole, a 23-year-old Indian IT professional who became Musk’s friend, prompted this conversation on Twitter when he asked Musk if a new platform is something he would consider, which revealed the Tesla CEO’s thoughts on the matter.

The question asked by Pranay Pathole via a tweet was: “Would you consider building a new social media platform @elonmusk?

“One that would consist an open source algorithm, one where free speech and adhering to free speech is given top priority, one where propaganda is very minimal. I think that kind of a platform is needed.”

Musk responded:

Am giving serious thought to this.

This interesting development came after Musk had earlier asked Twitter users if a new platform is needed.

This tweet encouraged the continuation of the debate he has ignited in recent days over social media platforms and free speech.

On March 25, he posted a poll to his Twitter account, asking users of the app a question about free speech.

“Free speech is essential to a functioning democracy. Do you believe Twitter rigorously adheres to this principle?,” Musk asked, providing users the option to answer yes or no.

The answer was overwhelming, with 70.4% of users responding “no.”

More than 2million people responded to the poll.

Musk followed up with another tweet, encouraging folks to “please vote carefully.”

“The consequences of this poll will be important,” he added.

He again followed up after the poll had closed, insinuating that something should be done.

“Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. What should be done?” he asked Twitter users.

A vast majority of people responded by asking Musk to rather buy the app.

This may have just been the push Elon Musk needed.
