Emenike: NSCDC man shoots senatorial candidate dead at Imo victory party

The senatorial candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the 2019 election for Imo North, Ndubuisi Emenike was on Sunday shot dead by an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The NSCDC officer was the security aide to the victim.

Emenike and others were reportedly celebrating the victory of Miriam Onuoha, the declared winner of the rerun election in Okigwe/Onuimo/Isiala Mbano federal constituency around 5 pm.

The celebration was few metres outside Onuoha, the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s country home in Umunachi in Isiala Mbano LGA.

Reports say that the NSCDC officer also joined in the celebration by shooting sporadically into the air.

However, he mistakenly turned the weapon on his boss and shot him, bringing the celebration to an abrupt end.

The NSCDC officer was immediately disarmed and Emenike was rushed to nearby St Joseph Hospital, Okwelle, before he was taken in an ambulance to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri.

According to Channels TV, Imo Police Public Relations Officer, SP Orlando Ikeokwu confirmed the Emenike’s death, adding that the suspect has been taken into custody.
