#EndSARS: Buhari’s govt doesn’t care – Ebuka

Ace presenter and BBNaija host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu has berated the Federal Government for not properly responding to the menace the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) pose to Nigerian youths.

He slammed the administration in a tweet on Sunday while contributing to the #EndSARS campaign that draws attention to the excesses of the tactical unit of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

There were renewed calls for SARS to be disbanded or properly restructured after a young man was reportedly gunned down in Ughelli, Delta State by suspected SARS personnel who proceeded to flee in his white Lexus SUV on Saturday.

As Acting President in 2018, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo directed then Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to overhaul the unit.

He equally ordered the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to probe the allegations of human rights violations against the unit.

Osinbajo said that the decision was taken based on persistent complaints being made by members of the public against the SARS.

Two years after, victims of extortion, illegal arrest and detention, maiming and relatives of those killed extrajudicially by personnel of the unit say there has been no change.

Joining the #EndSARS train, Ebuka said, “Same hashtag for years now without any proper response…

“Government actually doesn’t care about its people. Can’t convince me otherwise.”
