EndSARS: Buhari’s I-don’t-care attitude worsening violence – Bishop Kukah

Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most. Rev. Matthew Kukah says President Muhammadu Buhari’s lackadaisical attitude is worsening chaos in the country.

In an appearance on Channels Television on Wednesday, the cleric said that the president’s attitude did not show he was listening to wise counsel.

Kukah said it was worrisome that nearly 24 hours after security agents opened fire on peaceful EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos, the president has yet to address the nation.

He said that this portrayed unconcern for the plight of Nigerians that the president swore to protect.

Hoodlums in the guise of EndSARS protests have been going on rampage, attacking law enforcement agents and destroying public and private property.

The hoodlum attacks have got worse since the Lekki incident, and the cleric warned that the situation might not stop until the president realised that there is a major crisis at hand.

“Unfortunately for us, we have a President that seems almost unwilling to respond to the kind of reflexes that shows evidence that he is listening to wise counsel.

“Time is not on our side. You cannot kill people on the streets of Nigeria and 24 hours after, the President has still not spoken.

“Now, this culture of I-don’t-care has matured to this point where we see corpses on the rod and nothing has changed.

“What the youths are doing today is of much momentum and significance.

“And let the truth be told, we are not going to see the end of this so soon unless and until the President somehow wakes up to the fact that we have a major crisis on our hands.

“Ordinarily, it is not possible that we have this much blood on the streets of Nigeria yet there is no national broadcast, there is no show of empathy and nobody has lost his job,” Kukah said.
