Pope Francis has called on Christians especially Catholics to pray for social harmony in Nigeria.

The head of the Catholic Church made the call in a tweet in apparent reaction to widespread looting and arson that followed the hijack of peaceful EndSARS protests across the country.

Hoodlums have busted and looted COVID-19 palliative warehouses in Lagos, Osun, Kwara, Cross River, Plateau, and many other states.

The homes of Senators Teslim Folarin and Gershom Bassey were looted in Oyo and Cross River states respectively.

Former Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba was looted and set ablaze like Bassey’s.

Earlier, the Palace of the Oba of Lagos and Soun of Ogbomoso were also vandalised.

Like many police stations, the office of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) was torched.

Some peaceful protesters were shot at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos on Tuesday, and Jimoh Isiaq died from a stray bullet in Ogbomoso a week earlier.

Taking to Twitter, the Pope urged believers to pray against escalation of violence.

“Let us pray to the Lord for Nigeria, so that every form of violence might always be avoided, in the constant search of social harmony through the promotion of justice and the common good,” Pope Francis wrote.
