Tragedy struck in the Agbado area of Ifo LGA, Ogun State on Friday after an engineer, Oladeji Hamzat, stabbed his childhood friend identified as Bayo to death.

According to The Punch, the incident occurred at a bar, Hummes, where their friend identified as Owoseni was celebrating his birthday.

Hamzat was said to have arrived late at the bar around 10pm and went ahead to greet everyone at Owoseni’s table.

However, Bayo reportedly took exception to the way Hamzat greeted him and confronted him over the matter.

This was said to have left to a fracas during which Hamzat stabbed Bayo in the neck.

Bayo was said to have been rushed to three hospitals before he was accepted at the Ifako-Ijaye General Hospital, where he gave up the ghost.

Hamzat reportedly tried to escape after stabbing Bayo before he was apprehended by some bar workers, security men and others in the bar.

The suspect was then arrested by a police team from the Agbado Police Station who responded to a distress call from the bar.

However, Hamzat denied stabbing the victim, saying he had no recollection of stabbing the stabbing.

“I am a computer engineer and work in Abuja. I arrived here (Ogun State) on Thursday to visit my parents who live in Adiyan, in the Ifo LGA, and I lodged in a hotel at Agbado. On Friday, I attended Owoseni’s birthday. He (Bayo) came to where I was sitting and asked me where I had been all the while . I could not remember where I knew him.

“He came to meet me again and his friends cautioned him and said that was how he misbehaved whenever he was drunk . It was like he was looking for trouble. He confronted me again , smashed a bottle and attempted to stab me. I used my hand to block him and I started bleeding in the hand. I rushed outside with the blood. People started to beat me up. That is all I know. I do not know how he was stabbed in the neck,” The Punch quoted him as saying.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.
