EPL: Shearer Warns Chelsea Face Toughest Final Fixtures in Top-Five Battle

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has raised concerns over Chelsea’s challenging run-in as the race for a top-five finish in the Premier League intensifies.

With the title seemingly out of reach for most, as Liverpool and Arsenal remain firmly in control of the top two spots, attention has now shifted to the battle for Champions League qualification. Under the league’s updated format, a top-five finish will be enough to secure a spot in next season’s elite European competition.

Chelsea are locked in a tight contest with the likes of Newcastle United, Manchester City, Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa for those crucial positions. However, Shearer believes the Blues are at a disadvantage due to their fixture list.

“Looking at the fixtures, there’s no doubt in my mind that Chelsea have the toughest run-in,” Shearer said during an appearance on Premier League Productions. “The league might be done for Liverpool. Obviously, Newcastle is a huge one. And that last game against Nottingham Forest—they could be playing for everything, including who secures a Champions League place. So, for me, that’s the toughest run-in.”

Chelsea’s final five Premier League matches see them face Everton, Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester United, and Nottingham Forest—teams all with something left to play for.

With the pressure mounting and each point potentially decisive, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will have to navigate a high-stakes conclusion to the season if they are to return to Europe’s top table.
