How we established economic infrastructure in Benue–Commissioner

Prof. Dennis Ityavyar, the Benue Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, says the Samuel Ortom administration devoted its first two years in office to establishing economic infrastructure.

Ityavyar, who is also the head of the state’s economic team, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview on Sunday in Makurdi.

He explained that the administration needed to lay such policy structures to ensure the economic growth of the state.

According to him, one of such structures is geared toward promoting agribusiness in the state.

He said that the Ortom administration had provided the enabling environment for farming in the state to thrive by providing the needed improved seedlings, fertiliser and other agricultural inputs.

Ityavyar said the administration had recorded a lot of intangible achievements within its first two years in office.

“In the last two years, we have been able to achieve intangible economic successes, laid infrastructure and supported farmers with all the necessary assistance to succeed.

“We deliberately opened access roads and encouraged establishment of new industries in the state to effectively utilise our massive agricultural produce in the state,’’ he said.

He also disclosed that plans were underway to fully utilise the numerous solid minerals in the state. (NAN)
