The European parliament press-room would be named after the assassinated Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, the Parliament announced on Tuesday.

Caruana Galizia, a 53-year-old newspaper columnist and vocal government critic was killed by car bomb just metres from her home in the village of Bidnija on Oct. 16.

Parliamentary President Antonio Tajani said the example that Caruana Galizia set as a journalist must never be forgotten.

Deputies observed a minute of silence at noon in the memory of Caruana Galizia, and are due to hold a debate later in the day about the protection of journalists and the defense of media freedom in Malta.
