A female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who is doing her service in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State is fighting for her life.
The lady was allegedly raped by no less than 15 men when a gang of robbers invaded the ‘Corpers Lodge’ at Yenizue Gene, a suburb of Yenagoa.
There were vigilantes present but they were beaten up by the robbers as they only had sticks and machetes to arm themselves and were no match for the robbers.
The robbers then went into the NYSC Corpers Lodge and while there, they happened upon the female corps member whom they took away.
Speaking to the New Telegraph Online on the condition of anonymity, a resident of the community, said that the corps member was repeatedly raped by the hoodlums who took her in turns.
The lady was then taken to the hospital to be treated and the Police were alerted of the incident. Unfortunately, the Police were rendered useless as there was not light.
A vigilante, who gave his name simply as Tonye, said the security men were afraid of running into an ambush.
This has raised the issue of security in the Yenizue Gene area, and due to this incident are now planning on forming a vigilance with the hopes of being able to battle crime.
