Evra Warns Manchester United: Letting Bruno Fernandes Leave Would Be a Major Mistake

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has urged the club’s hierarchy to resist any temptation to part ways with captain Bruno Fernandes amid growing interest from the Saudi Pro League.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Evra emphasized that Fernandes remains Manchester United’s most influential player and played a crucial role in their journey to the Europa League final.
“I heard in Saudi they offered a lot of money to get Bruno and I think it would be a mistake to let him go,” Evra warned. “People talk about his age — 30. No! He’s the most important player in the team. I think if Bruno wasn’t there, maybe we wouldn’t be in the final of the Europa League.”
Manchester United, who have struggled for consistency in the Premier League this season and are set to finish just above the relegation zone, will face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on May 21 in Bilbao.
Evra acknowledged that the Portuguese playmaker cannot carry the team alone and stressed that the club needs reinforcements across all areas of the pitch. “What the manager is lacking at the moment is a competitive team. Manchester United need more players in every position,” he added.
Bruno Fernandes has been a standout performer since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2020, and any potential exit would deal a significant blow to a side already grappling with form and identity. Evra’s comments add to the growing calls for United’s leadership to prioritize stability and squad strengthening ahead of the summer transfer window.
