BREAKING: Ex-PPMC Managing Director, Suleiman Achimugu becomes first Nigerian to die from Coronavirus

Suleiman Achimugu, Ex-Director Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC) has become the first Nigerian to die from the deadly Coronavirus in Nigeria.

The Herald earlier reported that Nigeria has recorded its second death of the dreaded COVID-19 according to a report by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

However, the identity of the victim has been unveiled to be Suleiman Achimugu, Ex-Director of PPMC.

The family confirmed the incident in a statement released to The Guardian:

“He died of COVID 19 on 22/03/2020 some days after he arrived Nigeria from the UK.”

“He was in self isolation upon his return from the UK and personally called NCDC after experiencing some discomfort that are related to COVID 19 symptoms,” the family spokesman Abubakar Achimugu said in the statement.

“He tested positive and was promptly evacuated to the specialist hospital. He died while receiving treatment,”

Achimugu will be the first citizen to die from COVID-19 in Nigeria.

Lagos and Ogun states in a bid to curtail the widespread of the deadly virus have banned mass gathering of over 20 people.

A Pastor was arrested in Sagamu on Sunday March 22 for conducting a worship service with over 50 people in attendance.
