Mr Saleh Dunoma, Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has called on the leadership of aviation unions to support the authority’s policies and programmes toward the development of the nation’s aviation sector.

Dunoma made the call at the sensitisation workshop for leaders of aviation unions in FAAN in Abuja on Wednesday.

He said that the current management and staff of the agency had the responsibility of ensuring that strong and sustainable systems were put in place for those coming behind them to build on.

According to him, the current system was put in place by those before them and as such must work hard to sustain and improve on it.

“In whatever we are doing, we must put in our best to be able to sustain the system in such a way that people coming behind us would have course to say yes this is an organisation that is worth working for.

“This is an industry that was sustained by people that came before us, so we must make sure that we do our best to make sure that we surpass what they have done.

“What you are doing today is not for yourselves, but also for the people that are coming behind you.

“That is why we have a system that was built by the people before us and you do it for people behind us because people did it for you. That is how systems continue; that is how process is operated,’’ he said.

Dunoma said the Federal Government was committed to the welfare and interest of the members of staff, urging them to continue to do their best to move the organisation forward.

He also advised them to always adopt proper procedure in their activities in line with the organisational processes and procedures.

“I want to emphasise that no organisation can succeed without a system being put in place.

“We should continue to show good examples on how to do things, the way to operate and show an exemplary leadership,’’ he said.

Mr Ahmed Danjuma, Chairman, Air Transport Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSAN), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Branch, said the workshop was organised to enhance capacity of union members.

Danjuma said that there was need to teach the new leaders of National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and ATSSAN, the rudiments of unionism.

“Over time, we believe in human capacity building and this workshop is one of it and as union leaders, we must be trained because we need to know what it takes to lead.

“The new union leaders that were elected not too long ago need to be thought the rudiments of unionism.

“They need to be thought the activities of collective bargaining for them to flow and actively represent their members,’’ he said. (NAN)
