Sequel to the throwback photo of President Buhari, El-Rufai and El-Zakzaky, which was published by Sahara reports,  a digital newspaper owned by Omoyele Sowore, the presidency has debunked the inference that President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Nasir El-Rufai once met to solicit the help of El-Zakzaky for votes.

Sahara Reporters had published the picture on its news platform with the caption;

“FLASHBACK: When They Needed Votes, Nigeria’s President @MBuhari And Governor Nasir @elrufai Visited And Bowed To Ibrahim El Zakzaky And Then Turned Their Guns On Him And His Followers.”

Bashir Ahmad, Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on news media, debunked the allegation on Monday, January 13, stating that President Buhari never solicited votes or any assistance from El-Zazaky when he was contesting for President.

He further clarified that the picture was shot at a public event in 2009 but did not state which event it was.

Basir Ahmad said;

“To set the record straight; President Muhammadu Buhari has never, in all his 5-time campaigns for the Presidency (2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019), visited Ibrahim Zakzaky to seek his and followers votes, the picture was at a public event in 2009,” Bashir said.
