A radio station in Jos was fined a N100,000 for playing Falz’s hit song ‘This is Nigeria’ on their station after the NBC deemed that the lyrics were ‘vulgar’

The NBC in a letter to the radio station noted that the lines of the song that read “This is Nigeria, look how we living now, everybody be criminal” were vulgar in nature.

The letter also gave examples of other songs that violated their guidelines.

Falz took to his Instagram to comment on the ban of This is Nigeria, stating that he found the whole thing funny.

He captioned the image: “This is Nigeria. Look how we living now, everybody be criminal” is apparently a vulgar line 😂🤣

The song, which was a cover for Childish Gambino’s wildly popular ‘This is America’ caused a lot of controversy including a tirade by the Muslim Rights Concern who said they found the idea of girls in hijab doing the ‘Shaku Shaku’ dance, perturbing and that the song was hurtful to their sensibilities.

Many others loved the song as it was a social commentary song which is not something many Nigerian artistes set out to do anymore.

The other songs banned were ‘See Mary, See Jesus’ by Olamide and Wande Coal’s ‘Iskaba’ which they said was also vulgar.
