Embassy Demolition: Ghana Wouldn’t Dare If OBJ, Abacha Were President – Fani-Kayode Slams Buhari

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has said that the demolition of a Nigerian High Commission building in Accra, Ghana further proves that Nigeria does not have a strong leader.

He stated this in a Monday morning tweet.

Ghana-based JoyNews reported that some armed men stormed the Nigerian High Commissioner’ residence in Accra with bulldozers to demolish a block of apartments in the diplomatic building on Friday night.

The building which was still undergoing construction was being built to house staff and visiting diplomats to the Nigeria High Commission in Ghana.

JoyNews editor Fred Smith said the armed men threatened to shoot staff of the Nigerian embassy who were present at the scene if they interfered in their operations.

In what appeared to be a jibe directed at President Muhammadu Buhari, the controversial ex-minister stated that such could never happen under an Olusegun Obasanjo or Sani Abacha presidency.

Fani-Kayode said that the demolition was just one of many insults Ghanaian authorities have directed at Nigeria and its citizens in recent times.

“Nigerian traders in Ghana have had their shops forcefully shut for the last 8 months. Now our Embassy in Accra has been demolished & embassy staff threatened with violence. I assure you that Ghana would not try this if Nigeria had a President or if OBJ or Abacha were in power,” Fani-Kayode said.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian authorities on Sunday announced an investigation into the incident.

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration ministry said it “has beefed up security at the said facility and the situation is under control.

“Accordingly, investigations are ongoing to unravel the facts of the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.”
