A young Oyinye Aguluka met with her unfortunate end just a day to her wedding. What made it more heartwrenching was that the murderer was none other than her father.
The incident happened at Ndiagu Igboezue in Osikwu village Awgbu, Orumba North local government of Anambra State in the early hours of Friday.
Her father, Cletus Aguluka, the main suspect in the murder was arrested by members of the community’s vigilance group while trying to abscond from the murder scene.
According to the mother of the deceased, Georgina, Cletus seemed drunk on the night of the murder.
It was reported that the suspect had asked for a torch and was not given a satisfactory answer. After this everyone went to bed and it was believed that that was that.
“We thought he had forgotten about the torch until he woke up around one o’clock in the night, went inside his room and brought out a machete and stabbed Onyinye who was fast asleep,” Georgina narrated.
Also speaking on the incident, the suspect’s younger brother, Sebastine Aguluka, said Cletus had lately indulged in molesting almost every member of the extended family.
The state police public relations officer, PPRO, Mr Haruna Mohammed said the murder did indeed occur but that investigation was still in progress.
