The Governor of Ekiti State Kayode Fayemi has reversed all last minute appointments into the state public service made by his predecessor, Ayodele Fayose.

The cancellation of the appointments was approved by the Ekiti Executive Council at its sitting on Wednesday which mandated that certain key appointments made by former Gov. Ayo Fayose in the twilight of his tenure must be cancelled.

Mr. Fayose, just weeks before the end of his tenure as governor recruited around 2000 teachers into the state civil service despite owing existing workers in the state for months.

The review by the Ekiti State governments affects all appointments made into the civil service in the last four months.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, who briefed newsmen at the end of the meeting, said that all Executive Secretaries appointed after the July 21 governorship election in the state were to revert to their former positions.

He also said all other appointments into the Public Service that did not go through due process, involving biometrics would be reviewed by an EXCO Committee.

The state executive council further said that the committee would be headed by the Deputy Governor, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi.

According to him, the committee will also be mandated to determine existing vacancies within the public service which will lead to the commencement of fresh recruitment process.

Oyebode concluded that other members of the committee would include the Acting Head of Service, the Secretary to the State Government, the Commissioner for Finance and the Chief of Staff to Gov. Kayode Fayemi.

Fayose’s deputy Mr. Elekha had lost the governorship election to opposition candidate and former minister, Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fayose was detained immediately his term as Governor expired by the EFCC and arraigned in court on fraud and money laundering charges.
