Federal Government Holds India to Account for Death of Nigerian

The Nigerian Federal Government through the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has asked the Indian Government to account for a Nigerian who was beaten to death on the streets of India.

Video clips emerged on social media on Thursday showing a Nigerian being mobbed by a crowd of Indians.

According to reports, the deceased Identified as Suny Mike, was accused of theft which led to an Indian mob beating him to death.

The head of NIDCOM Abike Dabiri in her reaction to the video said it had gotten in touch with the Nigerian mission in Delhi to demand for an explanation from the Indian Government.

The Nigerian mission in India has reported to the police and has demanded a full investigation on this incident which happened two days ago. We will keep on it and update. Sad!,” she tweeted.

NIDCOM also noted the incident and demanded an inquiry into the death of the deceased on its official Twitter handle.

*Our attention has been drawn to the above incident of a Nigerian brutally beaten up in Delhi, India.

“The Nigerian mission in India is aware and is currently investigating the circumstances. We call on Nigeria Community in India to be calm as the Mission is aware.”

Mike died at the scene of the attack and his body was moved to the morgue by the police.
