Female pastor lands in jail over N23m scam

Justice I.M Sani of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has remanded a female pastor, Mercy Daniel Ogbonaya in jail over a N23 million scam.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned the accused on Thursday.

The anti-graft agency told the court that Ogbonaya obtained money under false pretence contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud Act.

EFCC said that the offence was punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.

In a terse statement, the commission said, “Justice I. M. Sani of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has remanded Mercy Daniel Ogbonaya, a pastor, in Port Harcourt Correctional Centre for obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Section 1 (1) (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act”.

The Herald recalls that the commission arraigned another female pastor, Pastor Blessing, in July 2019 before a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt for defrauding a man, Maxwell Uzuoma of N26 million.
