The days of Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives may soon come to an end following a clandestine move by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus to remove him.

The APC caucus members, acting under the aegis of the Parliamentary Support Group (PSG) loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari, are accusing Gbajabiamila of using his position, in cahoots with Hon. Sarki Adar (APC – Sokoto), for selfish reasons .

They PSG also complained bitterly that the leadership style of Gbajabiamila (APC – Lagos) has negatively affected cohesion within the APC caucus in the House.

The plot to remove Gbajabiamila was blown open on Wednesday in Abuja after a letter written by Abdulmumin Jibrin (APC – Kano) to the PSG members leaked.

In the letter, Jibrin said that Gbajabiamila’s fate as Majority Leader would be determined “in the next few days”.

He wrote: “Honourable colleagues, I urge you to remain calm in the face of attempt to undermine our efforts by Femi Gbajabiamila and Sarki Adar.

“We remain resolute in our support for PMB and unity of the House of Representatives. In the next few days, we will decide if Femi will continue to be the House leader as there are many competent members from South West that can perform better.

“We will not allow anybody to take advantage of our caucus and his so-called support for our party and PMB to foster his personal ambition. Gbajabiamila’s style has inflicted collateral damage to the unity of our caucus. It is time to deal with it.”
