FG Designates 6 Hospitals as Oncology Centres in Nigeria

The Federal government has earmarked six hospitals in the country as oncology centres of excellence.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the FG made this declaration in a press release signed by Mr Ayotunde Adesugba, Director Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Health.

The hospitals are Usmanu Danfodio University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, (North West), University Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri (North East) and UCH Lagos (South West), UTH Benin (South South), University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu (South East) and ABU Teaching Hospital, Zaria.

Permanent Secretary, Fed. Ministry of Health, Mr Linus Awute was quoted as saying that the upgrade is in line with public private partnership because the designation was made in collaboration with the Cancer Education and Advocacy Foundation of Nigeria (CEAFON) and ROCHE Products Limited.

Awute emphasised that PPP is the best legacy of the health ministry and an important strategy for addressing the challenge of non-communicable diseases and cancer care in particular.
