FG Intervenes In Obafemi Awolowo University Crisis

The Federal Government has intervened in the ongoing crisis plaguing the Obafemi Awolowo University over the alleged imposition of new Vice Chancellor.

Confirming the dissolution of the University’s governing council headed by Prof. Ndoma Egba by the Federal Government, the Institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Biodun Olanrewaju yesterday said: “I also saw the advertorial announcing the dissolution.”

Recall that the National Television Authority, NTA had on Thursday announced the Federal Government’s resolve on the issue as the new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ayobami Salami had been odered to vacate office.

The Chairman of the Non Academic Staff Union, NASU in the university, Mr. Wole Odewumi while speaking with Punch correspondents said the Federal Government will appoint an acting VC to oversee the affairs of the school pending the constitution of a new governing council.

He said, “We are very happy today. We have been jubilating since we heard the announcement.

“Yes, it is true that the Federal Government has dissolved the governing council.

“We are still monitoring activities at the university’s senate building; we don’t want anything to be stolen from the place.”
