FG marks May 29, June 12 as public holiday, releases program of activities

Following the proclamation of June 12 as the new Democracy Day in Nigeria, the Federal Government has  clarified that that May 29th would still be the day President Buhari would be sworn in for a second term.

Meanwhile, the upcoming June 12 celebration would be preceded by a couple of activities.

While giving an update on the plans, the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, explained that the swearing-in ceremony would witness some of the activities already lined up.

However, the important ones would begin on June 7, 2019, and wrap up on June 12 with the attendance of many world leaders.

The kick off for the celebrations will hold at the ICC (International Conference Center) with activities such as Historical Art Exhibition, Immersive Environment, Pictures, among others.

Then, on Sunday, 9th of June, the same venue will also play host to a youth concert, as well as a Creative and Entertainment Industry Night.

Explaining further, Lai Mohammed said, “On Monday, June 10th, there will be a Secondary Schools Exhibition/Panel Discussion at the ICC, and Tuesday, June 11th will feature three events: the PMB Oratorical Contest at the ICC, an Anti-corruption Summit at the Transcorp Hilton and a First Lady’s Commissioning Programme in Yola, Adamawa.

“Wednesday, June 12th will start off with a parade at the Eagle Square, and the Democracy Day program will wrap up with a Dinner and Gala Night at the State House Conference Centre.”
