FG Prepares Fresh List Of Looters; Ex-Govs, Ministers, Bankers To Be Fingered

The Federal Government is reportedly preparing a fresh list of looters that will correct the errors of the first two.

Recall that Information and Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed had on Good Friday, March 30 and Easter Sunday, April 1 released two lists containing 29 names of alleged looters of the nation’s treasury.

Following the release of the list, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had accused the government of bias, saying FG deliberately listed many of the party’s members to damage its chances in the 2019 election.

However, according to reports, the new list will contain names of former governors and ministers, many of whom decamped from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Bankers that facilitated the looting processes are also said to be included on the fresh list.

The Punch reported, quoting an authoritative source, that the fresh list would contain names of people that were yet to be prosecuted, as against the previous lists that contained mainly those that were being presently prosecuted.

The source further said that the fresh list would also contain names of those who obtained money directly from the Federal Government as well as from the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) under Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) leading to the 2015 election, as against the previous lists that focused on those who allegedly obtained money from the former NSA.

The source said, “ Between you and me , I can authoritatively tell you that we are compiling a fresh list . We won ’t release it until we are satisfied with it. We want to be thorough . People will be shocked when we release the fresh names.

“ Those who accused us of being biased will know that we know what we are doing. The first list was a fraction . When the second one came out , people were surprised . As for the next one, people will be shocked. I won ’t say more than that .”

Also, the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), confirmed that the fresh list would contain the names of the 55 people that Lai Mohammed said obtained N1.34 trillion from the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2015 election.

He said, “Yes, I ’m sure. In fact, there is a paper containing all their names , the charges against them , how far their cases have gone , some of them have never been charged.

“That list includes former governors , ministers , bankers and so on. That is another list entirely .”
