The Federal Government has refuted the claims of Nyesom Wike, the River State Governor who accused the Government of planning to rig elections by shutting down internet access in the country.  The governor had issued a warning on Thursday that the presidency is making plans to collaborate with the National Security Adviser, Internet Service Providers, as well as INEC to ensure gross rigging in different parts of the country.

In reaction to Wike’s claims, The Office of the National Security Adviser, (ONSA) has released a statement in which it vehemently denied such claims. ONSA emphasized that Wike’s claims are baseless and completely untrue. The statement, which was signed by Danjuma Reuben, says, “The Office wishes to advise the general public to disregard the allegation, which is disinformation. This Office wishes to state that the internet and associated communications infrastructure are major components of the Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII), which ONSA is mandated to ensure its security.”
